Yes, I know you are thinking, “spring, what is that!” or Michigan has only three seasons: Winter, Cold Winter and Polar Vortex!  Sooner, or later, it will arrive, please tell me it will.  This brings Echelon Homes to our home owner spring outdoor home maintenance tips for spring.

Yes, it has been an extremely rough, cold winter.  I do not know about you but my kids could possibly snowboard down the snow piles in our yard.  Once we get past the fluffy white stuff on the ground it is time to look at how the Michigan winter weather has affected all of our homes and us.  I have compiled a list of tips or ”honey do lists” and would like to share them with you.

Jen’s honey do outdoor home maintenance list:

• From the ground, check your roof for shingle damage.  Heavy, wet snow can cause damage, which can then cause problems inside your home.
• Have your chimney inspected and cleaned.
• Have your air conditioning unit cleaned and inspected by a heating and cooling expert.
• Check for cracks in concrete.  Fill cracks with a concrete crack filler or silicone caulk.
• Remember those snow piles I mentioned above?  If possible, clear them away from your home.  When the weather does warm up that pile of snow will melt!
• Check for loose or leaky gutters from the heavy snowfall we have had this year in Michigan.  Loose gutters can cause leaks into your home.
• Check outside hose faucets for freeze damage.
• Last but not least, take your bicycles to the local bike shop for a tune up and check the tires.  I do not know about you but I am ready for some serious bike riding this spring/summer.

​I am sure there is many more things you can add to your honey do list, but this is a start.  Think Spring!
