If you’re like most new home buyers, you want to make sure you’re choosing the right area, the right neighborhood, and the right lot when you’re considering new home construction. Feeling overwhelmed by it all? Here are some tips to finding just the right spot. Research the Area The best way to determine if an area is a good fit for you is to do some research. Take a look at details that are important to you. Here are a few to consider: Public Transportation Do you commute to work via public transportation? Check for stations and stops in the area you’re considering. Shopping Search the area for convenient store locations. Activities, Entertainment, and Recreation Check to see if the things you like to do are located in the area where you’re considering building. Schools Got kids? Knowing what school district you’ll be in and what schools are in the area is vital to many parents. Check with the local school districts for information. Get to Know the Neighborhood Drive around the area that the neighborhood is situated in to get a feel for it. Then walk around the neighborhood you’re considering at different times of day and night. Get an idea of what goes on, who’s around, what the neighborhood looks and feels like. You’ll get a sense of it to see if it’s the right fit for you. Decide on a Lot There are many factors that go into choosing the right lot for your new home. Homes close to the entrance will have more traffic, but will also have easy access into and out of the neighborhood. Homes on a cul-de-sac are generally quieter and are a good choice for families with small children. What direction do you want your house to face? Keep in mind the direction of the sun in the winter and summer and consider where you want to the sun in relation to your house in the different seasons. There’s a lot of personal preference that goes into choosing the right area, neighborhood, and lot for a new home.
